Ho do I declassify a Device?

I have several routers and switches that are at EOL that I need to declassify before I can get rid of them. Is there a standard method of insuring that all sensitive data is removed. I know that the DOD uses Cisco and must have a process. On the 3200 Routers there is a declassify command that can take care of it but I have older devices.

In a "classified" environment the hardware is pulverized and physically destroyed. Non classified hardware the NVRAM is wiped to remove all configrations, only allowing the OS to remain.

Depending on the work center a QA or outside entity would witness the wiping of the device or run checks to make sure no configuarions or identifying labels are remaining on the device.
