Losing Internet Connectivity

Hey Everyone,

We have a PIX 515e with IOS 6.3 which connects to an Cisco 1700 router using 2M symmetrical line for internet. Over the past few weeks our internet has been constantly dropping. Our ISP believes something is flooding our network that is causing our internet to drop. Anyone know how I can monitor what traffics goes in / out of our PIX or have any idea what can cause our internet to drop suddenly?

I also did a port scan of the PIX from the outside and notice I could no longer ping at the same time until I stopped the port scan.

you could use the PDM to monitor the interface traffic if you were about, or you could use SNMP if you weren't.

show conn count

clear traffic

show traffic

Hi Mark, you can install a free syslog server on your laptop, e.g. kiwi syslog daemon (www.kiwisyslog.com),

you also would have to configure the syslog settings on your pix:

logging on

logging timestamp

logging monitor debugging

logging trap informational

logging history debugging

logging host inside

althernatively you can use sniffer to check who is utilizing your bandwidth!

Thanks for your response. I was able to locate the problem by following your instructions. I have blocked several computers that was sucking up the network bandwidth.
