MTU MSS for increased thru put

What is the recommended MTU for WAN links, we have a 6M pipe from florida to Georgia and only seeing 300K-400K file transfers.

The VPN tunnel is showing no fragmentation with 1472MTU

Is this about the best I should expect?

Would the tunnel show pings not being fragmented and still fragmenting the packets?

What are your TCP window sizes? What is the RTT between the sites? You can get a satisfactory estimate of the RTT by using ping command.
