I've been trying for a couple of weeks to establish remote desktop over a vpn with no success. I am able to establish a connection to the vpn but once connected, I am unable to connect by remote desktop.

I think it has to do with either a program or protocol on my notebook. I tried connecting from work - with my notebook - and was able to connect to the network but not to \\10.1.1.2. I uninstalled the SQL desktop engine, disabled all of the software firewalls and was able to connect.

Thanks for all of your help.

I just had this issue today. For anyone else that may come across this. The problem was the new Microsoft RPC client. I couldn't get connected for anything while in the office, it would connected "sometimes" while out. I downloaded and installed the old 5.2 RDP client and everything is working perfectly now.

Hi again - The issue I seem to be having now is that only one session can connect to the vpn at a time. Also, I can only RDP once; if I rdp, close the session, and try to rdp again, I am unable to do so. Here is my current config.

From experience, intermittent RDP issues over VPN go hand in hand with MTU problems. You will probably also notice that SMTP is having issues as well. I would recommend lowering your MTU values. I have had this issue multiple times when working with site to site VPNs between routers. Unfortunately, I am not sure of the configuration statements required for a client/server model, like your using here.
