Using 3640 to log events

Hi,

I am working for a medium size company. We got a central router (3640) and different remote sites (1603 Router). These remote sites dialin to 3640. We have configured ppp encapsulation and chap authentication. We do not want to invest in TACACS and Radius servers. Is there any way that we can capture syslog (log events) on router itself for audit and accounting? Is it possible to save this in NVRAM for later viewing?

Any sort of help and suggestion will be welcome and appreciated.

Thanks

Sid

You can’t capture the logs to the router. You’ll surely run out of memory if you could. The syslog can stream to a log server (which can even be a win9x machine on your network running some shareware syslog server software) and then you can rifle through that data offline.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your suggestion. I am thinking of running Cisco Works 2000 on Windows NT and then capture syslog messages on it.

Thanks

Sid
