Reported Audio / Video Issue: D9854 / D9858 & Version 4.0 Release

A customer has reported issues once updating to version 4.0.

High Level:

  • Equipment (D9854s and D9858s) was updated last week.
  • Over the weekend customer began receiving noticeable audio hits and warning messages on monitoring system that indicated loss of video and audio  (very short durations).

Workaround

  • Customer downgraded to 3.96 (and selected old FPGA code) on all units.  Issue disappeared.

Cisco's TS and R&D organizations are working this issue, and will provide updates when available.

Recommended action at this point is to standby if you have scheduled updates.

If you have updated and are or are not experiencing issues, please feel free to add to this discussion thread

**Currently manufactured units will ship with 3.96**

Engineering replicated the R4 upgrade setup with configuration files from customer.

No issues reported with lab feeds so far, but investigation is still ongoing.

Support team is also in the process of collecting more detailed syslogs at customer site to bring more details to engineering.

Next step that is being arranged is to downlink the actual feeds where issues were reported on, this way engineering can accurately recreate the customer situation.

Will keep you updated on any progress.

We have the customer setup recreated including the actual Satellite feeds and will run tests over the weekend.

No specific findings so far but will give another update on Monday.

Results from running the tests on our units with the customer feeds over the weekend are being compiled but nothing too major was reported from the initial results.

Might require more engagement at customer site.

Will report back if anything of interest is to be communicated.

We have continued to monitor for D9854 R4 issues in our testlab with the customer feeds and were unable to detect anything so far.

After talking to the customer again, we were made aware that the setup experiencing an issue actually orginates from a D9858 and from some basic tests at the customer, the problem that was communicated seems to relate back to the D9858 with R4 and not the D9854. Issues were reported by customer on the D9858 ASI and IP output.

With that info, we will make the necessary changes to our setup and continue to monitor.

We will give an update as information becomes available.

Our testing thus far did not deliver any information related to the problem noted at our customer site.

After meeting with the customer again, it was made clear that the settings files given for the units were not the correct ones. We received new ones yesterday and started monitoring again.

We will give an update as more information becomes available.

Kind Regards,

Jordi.

Update on R4 testing:

Problem was indeed isolated to the transcode functionality of the D9858 with a certain feed and the R4 release.

When using the D9858 in HD transcode mode, it manifests itself as a frame skip which can also cause audio issues.

The problem is less severe or not detectable in SD transcode mode or passthrough mode.

A test release with the fix was installed on the test system and so far the results are positive.

At this point a R4 maintenance release is planned for the D9858 only but will let you know what the final outcome is after we complete our testing.

Kind Regards,

Jordi Sander.

A new code release will be made available mid January for D9854, D9824, D9858 which will combine the fixes for all discovered issues.

Currently running IVT with SVT starting next week and running into January before we do our official release on Cisco.com

Will post link here when released.

Jordi.

New Maintenance release will be called R4.01

Code release finished IVT and SVT testing.

It is currently receiving its final stability tests with a pending release before the end of January.

Link will be posted soon.

Kind Regards,

Jordi Sander.

Update: We posted the new R4.01 release on Cisco.com which solves all discussed issues, this for D9854/D9858/D9824.
