Hi

I am confused about the role of Cisco SCE8000 , as written in its datasheet ,its DPI solution uses stateful deep packet
inspection, helping enable users to optimize traffic on their networks and controls the traffic based on configurable rules.

So could some one clarify me if its can be used as :

1- URL filtering

2- P2P VoIP filtering :Skype, Viber

3- Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file sharing: BitTorrent,eDonkey.

Regards

Hi,

1- URL filtering => Yes

2- P2P VoIP filtering :Skype, Viber => Yes

3- Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file sharing: BitTorrent,eDonkey. => Yes

For P2P VoIP and file sharing, take into account that, as long as SCE has a classification signature support for the particular protocol/application version, it should be able to perform classification on that. Once traffic can be classified, you can shape it, block it, etc. You should normally be able to find signatures support in the release notes of the product (Protocol PAck notes, to be more precise):

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/cable/serv_exch/serv_control/broadband_app/protocol_pack/PP_Note_current.html

For URL filtering, you can import lists of URLs or use a CPA server (like SurfControl) to handle this (SCE acts as a CPA client). Check the SCA BB configuration guide for more details:
