3600 Series AP's b/g/n Radio Not Coming UP

Dan Man

Level 1

We installed 10 Cisco 3600i AP's, into one of our new buildings.  The AP's are connected to a 2960S PoE switch.  The 10 ports are configured for auto power inline.  The ports show 15.4 watts.  For 8 of the AP's, Radio 0 802.11 b/g/n admin status shows down, operating status shows down, clean air admin and clean air status show down.  Regulatory domain shows as supported.  For Radio 1 802.11 a/n, shows all up.  From admin to operating status.  When I log into the AP, I see that Radio 0 interface is administratively down, whereas Radio 1 is not.  Radio 1 shows up/up.  When I bring Radio 0 up, it shows up/up, but admin status still shows as down. Two of the ten AP's show both radios as up/up with admin and operating status as up.  I've researched the issue, and have done everything from turning off CDP on the AP, to turning off CDP on the port that the AP's are plugged into.  Nothing works.  I do think that if I tried a power adapter, on the AP, then the AP will function, but I do not have a power adapter to test that theory with.  I think the issue is with PoE.  Not sure why two of the ten work, and the other eight don't. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Are these 3600 autonomous or controller-based?

They are controller based.

i think the issue is with POE.

When deployed using a PoE specification, the power drawn from the power sourcing equipment will be higher by some amount dependent on the length of the interconnecting cable. This additional power may be as high as 2.45W, bringing the total system power draw (access point + cabling) to 15.4W with PoE 802.3af as an example.

Post sh inline power output from swicth.

On the main page, click the "Details" link under All APs.  Choose the AP and make sure under Status choose "Enable".

in the AP radio configuraton, go in and toggle the disable/enalbe.  See if that snaps the radio operational

There are only eight here, out of the ten.  The other two are being relocated.  The AP's on gi1/0/6 and 1/0/7 are functioning correctly.  I have tried toggling off the admin status from disable to enable.  I've also restarted the AP's.  Thanks again!

Hi Dan,

I think power status is ok on switch side.

Console into the any one ap(which is showing down) and boot it up and see if you see anything regarding disabling radio due to power or something else.

Regards

Looks like power is not an issue per the last few lines of the boot up process:

Hi Dan,

this is all of ur logs???

please put the full logs...

%CDP_PD-4-POWER_OK: Full Power - NEGOTIATED inline power source—This message indicates the access point is operating at full power and has successfully negotiated for 15.4 W of power from a Cisco switch supporting Cisco Intelligent Power Management.

So i think there is no power problem.

Please alos check:

Go to wireless tab and then click on the AP. There you can enable or disable the ap.

Also go to the wireless tab and click on 802.11a/n or 802.11b//g/n in the left hand side and then find your AP. go all the way to the right side and you will see a triangle. Click that and then configure. This allows you to admin up or down that radio.

Regards

Sandeep, this is just the last line of the AP logs.  I can post the entire log:

Had to cleanse the log a bit......

I had gone into the wireless tab and disabled and re-enabled the AP.  I've also been to the network portion of the wireless tab, and disabled and re-enabled the networks

Sandeep, I appreciate the feedback.  However, we have 7.5.102.0 on all 5508 controllers.  Not sure why this would be stating that, unless the software on the WLC needs to be upgraded.  You actually might be onto something!

Paste the output of this command from WLC:

sh sysinfo

That's really weird......

That's one of our guest anchor controllers that's not even in production....not sure why it's trying to attach to it
