5 GHz channel 144 (5710 GHz ~ 5730 GHz) selection on Cisco AP

Hello,

I have two APs in my hand which are,

- AIR-CAP702W-B-K9

- AIR-SAP1602I-B-K9

According to the following Cisco publication, channel 144 should be available for any Cisco AP product in the regulatory domain '-B'. However, I am not able to select channel 144 as below.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/8-3/b_cisco_aironet_series_2800_3800_access_point_deployment_guide/b_cisco_aironet_series_2800_3800_access_point_deployment_guide_chapter_01011.pdf

1. Does anyone know how to select channel 144?

2. Do I need any image or firmware update to make it available?

Thank you,

Andy

Hi,

Your AP models do not support that channel (frequency 5.720), even as B models. If you were using a 1572 or 4800 this would work as they are later models with support for that particular channel. You can see this in the datasheets where both models only support A Regulatory domain rates:

702/1602:
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/aironet-700-series/data_sheet_c78-728968.html
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/aironet-1600-series/data_sheet_c78-715702.html
A Regulatory Domain:
● 2.412 to 2.462 GHz; 11 channels
● 5.180 to 5.320 GHz; 8 channels
● 5.500 to 5.700 GHz; 8 channels
(excludes 5.600 to 5.640 GHz)
● 5.745 to 5.825 GHz; 5 channels

Compared to a 4800 AP where you can see the range goes to 5.720 which is channel 144.
B (B regulatory domain):
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/aironet-4800-access-point/nb-09-air-4800-acces-ds-cte.html
● 2.412 to 2.462 GHz; 11 channels
● 5.180 to 5.320 GHz; 8 channels
● 5.500 to 5.720 GHz; 12 channels
● 5.745 to 5.825 GHz; 5 channels

Cheers,
Ric
