Autonomous AP converted to LWAPP and a 2100 Series WLC

Can anyone confirm that it is possible to join a converted Autonomous AP to a 2100 Series WLC (namely AIR-WLC2106-K9)?

A came across two documents http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html and http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_tech_note09186a008072d9a1.shtml The first document does not list WLC 2100 Series as compatible while the latter one does. I would like to hear from someone who has some practical experience with this.

Errrr ... Let me get this straight ... if you mean that you've converted your Autonomous AP to LWAP and you want it to join the WLC-2100 then the answer depends on the model of the AP and the firmware you are using.

If you AP happens to be the 1130, 1140, 1230, 1250 then possible.  Again, this is dependent on the firmware.

I noticed the same statement in a config guide that only WLC series 2000, 4400, and WiSM's (I believe) would let lwapp converted APs join them. I am hoping it is just outdated info that was meaning the original Airespace controllers would not accept these converts.

So, I would be interested in an LWAPP converted 1242AG joining a 2100 WLC.

- It's current AP IOS is: 12.3(8)JEA

- The upgrade image could be: c1240-rcvk9w8-tar.123-7.JX9.tar (or 124-10b.JDA, or 124-21a.JA2)

- And the 2106 is on: 6.0.196.0

Would this combination work?

I wasn't sure which device code revision you were referring to...

Let me see.  The 2000 is end-of-sale since 2008 (I think) and superseded by the 2100.  The 4400 is end-of-sale since November 2011 and superseded by the 5508.  The WiSM is about to be end-of-sale in the next six months and will be superseded by the soon-to-be-released WiSM2.

It doesn't matter what version of the "rcv" IOS you are running as long as it is the "rcv" image.  So the IOS you are currently running is correct.

- And the 2106 is on: 6.0.196.0

Yes it is correct.  No I wouldn't recommend 5.X or 6.X.  Go to 7.0.98.0 instead as it's more stable.
