Cisco 1142 QoS configuration.

Can anyone clarify if there is a requirement to create a QoS policy for voice traffic before enabling the QoS element for wireless phones on the advance tab in QoS?

Also has any one seen issues with Mitel phone roaming, specifically when roaming from one access point to another and then immediatly roaming back to the previous access point? We are experiencing a ten second drop of communication before reconnecting.

Many Thanks in advance

James: where do you want the policy? On neighbor switch? Actually end-to-end qos is needed.

There are too many factors that affect roaming that may not necessarily be related to the qos config.

What security are you using on the wifi ? 10 seconds doesnt sound like QoS, rather a phone doing 802.1X which no OKC.

How are the APs configured? Are they using a WLC or Autonomous? If Autonomous do you have WDS configured to assist in the roaming?

Which Mitel phone are you using? The Mitel 5624 or the Polycom solutions? The Mitel 5624 supports OKC and CCKM so you should be able to have fast roaming if the APs are setup properly. If you are using Polycom phones than you should be able to have roams less than 10 seconds as well unless they are changing between frequencies.

Roaming from 1 AP and then back to the original is a decision of the client device (phone) so without seeing your design and survey results (you did one right?) one can't explain why that happens.
