The table mentions the SKU for the WLC primary and HA to be one and the same.  So if you're configuring an HA bundle, what would be the AP license count to opt for?  This was irrelevant for the other WLCs

Hi,

I have been looking at the WLC5520 as I need to support 600 access points. The data sheet isnt very clear on how to HA.

I spoke to an expert in Cisco and he confirmed the there is not an actual HA SKU, as we have all become used to, but the plain box without any licenses can act as the non-licensed HA WLC. 

This is "to make it simpler" which it clearly has not.  

So an HA pair will look like:

1 x AIR-CT5520-K9 (with the AP licenses, purchased as if they are add-ons, or the 50 lic bundle)

1 x AIR-CT5520-K9 (without licenses and configured as the HA box).

But in this scenario, would the HA part take control of the 600 APs fully operational? if there's no adder license, only 50 APs would be operative, and evaluation license for the other 450 APs woulb be running until expiration. am I correct?

Hi Jesus,

I'm sorry my example is not very clear.

The below line is saying order the CT5520 and then add AP licenses as add-ons, so in my example that should be 600 x licenses.

OR start with the CT5520-50 (50 x AP licesnes bundle) and then (for my 600 AP requirement) add as add-ons a further 550 to get to the 600 total.

1 x AIR-CT5520-K9 (with the AP licenses, purchased as if they are add-ons, or the 50 lic bundle)

Then the HA Box (just the plain box, there isnt an HA SKU) will have zero licenses and will inherit the whole 600 licenses from the failed primary and support the 600 AP's.

Hi, Does it matter whether we use AP SSO or N+1 redundancy for this HA to inherit the license? I guess my question is if both HA scenarios are supported with the licensing method described above?

I think if my understanding is correct. This statement: 

Pools license entitlements in a single account. Licenses can be moved freely through the network– wherever they are needed.

Means that if you have 600 licenses and 600 AP's, it does not matter how many controllers you have. You can move them around. Now technically for N+1 you should have 300 licenses on each controller and move 300 if one controller should fail. Since it is RTU, no one is likely going to check what you do specifically. If it is like anyconnect they expect you to be honest and license what you use.

Does license will move from wlc 5508 (100 license) primary controller to 5520 as N+1 HA role ? If 5520 is HA hardware ? And what if 100 license on 5508 is base license do not add-on license ?
