Clients staying attached to controller interface after migration

So i will try to explain this clearly. We are in a fairly large environment of 20 5508s and we are in the process of going through our 4 mobility groups, one at a time, and upgrading from 7.4 to 8.0. We upgrade our backup controller, move the APs to it, upgrade the primary controller, and move the APs back. As we did this, we had a lot of clients, a few laptops but mostly Cisco 7925 phones, that would get an address from the backup controllers wlan interface, then hold onto that IP address after having moved the APs back onto the primary controller (which clearly doesnt jive with the address range of the interface the client now needs to get through). Has anyone else seen this? The only fix we had was to go through the controller and identify clients that did not have correct IP addresses.... very VERY time consuming when you have thousands of clients. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!

David
