Converged access 3850 QOS platinum policy state: Validation Failed

Hi all,

So got a 3850 running 03.03.04SE.  Trying to set up platinum QOS for voip on a wlan.

When applying platinum, I get this problem:

QoS Service Policy - Input
  Policy Name                                  : platinum-up
  Policy State                                 : Validated
QoS Service Policy - Output
  Policy Name                                  : platinum
  Policy State                                 : Validation Failed

Any ideas why platinum fails validation?

Hi,

I had a service-policy configured for the switchport where an AP was attached.

I was able to get the QoS policy applied and validated:

  1. Disabled the switchports to shutdown the AP's
  2. Removed the service-policy from the switchports connected to the AP's
  3. Reconfigured the WLAN , by deleting and recreating the WLAN profiles including the qos policy.
  4. Brought UP switchports and access-points.

Hi,

Did you try to add these two lines via CLI  ? Make that SSID advertising on your AP & then check. I tried it on IOS-XE 3.6 & it worked.

wlan ABC-123
service-policy input platinum-up
service-policy output platinum

5760#show wlan id 21 | be QoS
QoS Service Policy - Input
  Policy Name                                  : platinum-up
  Policy State                                 : Validated
QoS Service Policy - Output
  Policy Name                                  : platinum
  Policy State                                 : Validated

still if it is not working I think it is code specific issue

Yes, I configured that via command-line.  Any one know of a work-around that I could try?

I tried replicating the platinum qos settings under a different policy, and it still returns "validation failed"

Bug?

You can upgrade to 3.6 if you like. That code does not have this issue.

Hi

I have the same issue in that when I issue the following command I get the validation error for the SSID.

NLSPL01SWI-core1-WLC#show wlan name xxxxx | inc Policy
AAA Policy Override                            : Disabled
QoS Service Policy - Input
  Policy Name                                  : SSIDin
  Policy State                                 : Validation Failed
QoS Service Policy - Output
  Policy Name                                  : SSIDout
  Policy State                                 : Validation Failed
QoS Client Service Policy
  Input  Policy Name                           : PM-taggingPolicy
  Output Policy Name                           : unknown
Radio Policy                                   : All

I followed your advice and create a new test SSID and applied a Server Policy to it and it validates.

NLSPL01SWI-core1-WLC#show wlan name abc123 | inc Policy
AAA Policy Override                            : Disabled
QoS Service Policy - Input
  Policy Name                                  : platinum-up
  Policy State                                 : Validated
QoS Service Policy - Output
  Policy Name                                  : platinum
  Policy State                                 : Validated
QoS Client Service Policy
  Input  Policy Name                           : unknown
  Output Policy Name                           : unknown
Radio Policy                                   : All

I have read the bug details and it is obviously hitting this. My users are not complaining of voice issues which is great but I do want this policy to work correctly.

Can you tell me why I need to shut the ports down that are connect to the access points in your steps?

Why I run my configuration, I shut the SSID down, created the class-maps and policy-maps and then applied this to the SSID and then issued a no shut on the SSID.

I am running version 03.03.03 SE

Regards

Greg

Hi Greg,

I'm 100% sure anymore but I think because the AP's needed a reload for some reason.

Hi

you added the qos policies through GUI or CLI? Validation failed generally means that the qos policy did not get installed.

If this was done through CLI, this should be a code specific issue.

Hi,

I've got the same error running 3.6.0 and opened a TAC case
Keep you updated.

Hi Jan-Willem,

What ever came from the TAC case regarding running 3.6.0 and the platinum QOS error?

Hi,

I had a service-policy configured for the switchport where an AP was attached.

  1. Disabled the switchports to shutdown the AP's
