IEEE 802.11b physical layer measurements

Dear Sir,

My question is related with the wireless network IEEE 802.11b especially its physical layer.

Is there a software (or an extender PC Card) to use with the PCMCIA Card IEEE 802.11b in a Laptop in order to extract some measurements concerning the physical layer such us the channel impulse response (frequency response or time response)?

I like to know as much as possible about the condition of the signal when surveying and troubleshooting.
