Hi,

I am configuring a ASA 5506 with the built-in WLAN module. When I session into the WLAN module to do configuration, an error continuously posts on screen.

##########INVALID PID -- DEFAULTING TO POWER LEVEL SKU1##########

FW01# session wlan console
Opening console session with module wlan.
Connected to module wlan. Escape character sequence is 'CTRL-^X'.
#############INVALID PID -- DEFAULTING TO POWER LEVEL SKU1 ################
#############INVALID PID -- DEFAULTING TO POWER LEVEL SKU1 ################
#############INVALID PID -- DEFAULTING TO POWER LEVEL SKU1 ################
#############INVALID PID -- DEFAULTING TO POWER LEVEL SKU1 ################

I have not been able to find any information regarding this. Below is the versions for both the ASA and the WLAN module.

Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 9.5(1)

NAME: "AP1100", DESCR: "Cisco Aironet 1100 Series (IEEE 802.11b) Access  point"

Cisco IOS Software, C702 Software (ap1g1-K9W7-M), Version 15.3(3)JBB4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Hi Nick,

I personally never worked with this piece of hardware but as the following document says ASA 5506W-X Wireless Access Point Software Compatibility the built in AP should be a Aironet 702i (can also be seen in the FW Version ---> Cisco IOS Software, C702 Software (ap1g1-K9W7-M), Version 15.3(3)JBB4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)).

So I wonder where you got that from and/or why it says its a 1100.

NAME: "AP1100", DESCR: "Cisco Aironet 1100 Series (IEEE 802.11b) Access  point"

Are you able to do anything CLI-wise on the WLAN module?

Kind Regards,

Phillipp

Hi Phillipp,

Thanks for replying. I am able to run commands like normal and it seems like the WLAN after configuration is operating normally. It just continually prints that error over and over again and then I am not able to exit the session and go back to the ASA session.

Hi Phillipp,

I've looked into the other 5506 I am configuring and I'm getting the same error printing over and over again. I found some more information that says the PID and Software is 702? (I've removed the errors to improve readability).

You also seem to be running a software from 2015, which means very early. I suggest you first upgrade the software to a more current version, see my other post in this thread.

I've updated the ASA to 9.8.2 and it is still having the issue.

Check if the answer here maybe helps:

Do you see now a different software release when you repeat this command 'ap# show ver'?

Upgraded the AP side to 153-3.JH1

That fixed the issue.

> Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 9.5(1)

You are running a very early software on it, from the year 2015. I suggest you first upgrade to 9.6(4) Interims 10: https://software.cisco.com/download/home/286283326/type/280775065/release/9.6.4%20Interim

There are various known security issues in your running software and the device should not be directly attached to the internet in it's current state.

Thanks, I will try upgrading it now.
