First, we need to know the model of controller that you have and make sure that you are connecting the controller correctly to the network. Per example, a 4400 or 5500 series WLC need to be connected to Gigabit Ethernet ports, so it is not going to work if you connect it to fast Ethernet ports (like to your computer directly).

Also you have to make sure that you are assigning the ip address to the management interface and that the interface is linked to the correct physical port. You can run a "show interfaces summary" to help you with this.

Depending on the model of your WLC, you will have a service port that you can also use to manage your controller. You just have to assign an ip address to the service port and connect a computer with an IP address from the same subnet directly to the service port and that's it.

I hope this information helps you with your issue. Cheers

How your laptop is connected? Via wired or wireless?

If you are connecting via wireless you need to enable management over wireless that s disabled by default.

Do it from GUI or CLI. Use help menu in GUI and search for management over wireless.

Hi ,

Do you have the PC directly connected to the WLC ports? Or is the WLC
connected to the switch and the PC to?

Please capture the show port summary and show interface summary.

When you configured the management interface with an IP address did
you set it with a VLAN identifier of 0 or untagged?

If the PC is directly connected to the ports of the WLC you need
to make sure that the management interface is untagged or has a VLAN
identifier of 0 because laptops do not work with tagging and if you set a VLAN
tag other then 0 then the PC will not be able to communicate with the WLC.

If the WLC is connected to a switch then make sure that the switch has a
trunk port configured and has the same native VLAN or untagged VLAN as the one you
configured on the WLC with the VLAN identifier of 0.
