Netflow configuration in WLC and its visibility in cisco Prime

Dears

I have a WLC 5520 with code 8.2 and a prime infrastructure running 3.1, i want to have a visibility of application usage in prime.

I have configured Netflow exporter and monitor in WLC keeping Exporter IP as cisco prime IP,  and even in the controller i dont see application usage. For the WLAN's i have enabled AVC and Netflow.. still no luck

Do we need to have a dedicated netflow exporter tool like solarwinds? or can anyone answer me how to configure netflow for application usage and to see that in both WLC and Prime?

Hi,

1. Here is the guide for WLC Netflow config:

2. Guide to configure PI for net flow from WLC:

Yes, you require specific netflow exporters (eg Prime, Scrutinizer) in order to correctly show stats coming from WLC. Here is a post about what you can see from 8.2 onward with 8540/5520

Below is some old post about Netflow with Scrutinizer in order to get you an idea

Personally I do not think Prime is giving much when it comes to Netflow Analysis

I have configured Netflow exporter and monitor in WLC keeping Exporter IP as cisco prime IP,  and even in the controller i dont see application usage. For the WLAN's i have enabled AVC and Netflow.. still no luck

Do you have prime assurance licenses ?

Hi Rasika,

Thanks for the details. Yes i do have prime assurance licenses. 200 tokens

So.. for app usage visibility, i just have to do the following

1. Configure netflow in WLC - where Exporter ip will be prime ip

2. Enable Netflow and AVC on required WLAN

If prime have assurance licenses then it should show the application usage with the above config?

I wonder this too, using PI 3.2 though. I think it worked on PI 3.1, but it doesn't anymore seem to work on 3.2.
