Slow Internet speed via wifi network

Hi!

We have Cisco 5508 WLC with Cisco Aironet 1140: AIR-AP1142N-E-K9. The browsing speed via WIFI is really slow like 5 Mbps.

I am CCNA and CCNA Security but have basic knowledge about Cisco wifi setup.

I have to troubleshoot the performance issue. So someone can guide me with this.

So what radio is/are the client(s) connected on?

What data rates are enabled globally or RF Profiles?

Is there any bandwidth contract enabled or AVC enabled on the SSID?

I was just trying to follow along on this thread, if I don't have any RF Profiles configured, where are the Global Data rates configured?

Wireless > 802.11b/g > Network.

Look at the right-hand side called "Data Rates".  What rates are Disabled, Mandatory & Supported.

I can see that Downstream and Upstream for every thing under Override per-user bandwidth contracts and per SSID is set to 0

AVC: Application Visibility is not enabled.

So what radio is/are the client(s) connected on?

Depending on what firmware version is loaded on the WLC, you can specify a bandwidth contract (aka traffic shaping policy) on a per-SSID or per-user bases.  AVC can also specify which known protocol or application can be traffic shaped.

So what radio is/are the client(s) connected on?

On the front page of the controller, left-hand side, go to Clients.  Find the MAC address of the specific clients using the filter.  Once there, you should be able to see what is the data rates used by the clients as well as what radio the clients are connected on.

The data rate is 6.0,9.0,12.0,18.0,24.0,36.0,48.0,54.0

and I can only find the Radio word with Radio slot id with value of 1.

Radio Slot 0 = 802.11b radio

Are we using ipv6 here? if not, can we disable ipv6 and try?

You should be getting better speed based on the snr, rssi and data rate to which you are falling currently which is m15.

Ipv6 is enabled on Dhcp server and its active on wired as well.

what is the speed we are getting for wired devices when connected to the same vlan?

Also can we do an iperf test ? please refer the below for the same.

Hi Mate,

Can you get the show client detail <mac address> output from the command line of controller.

This will give us all the details like to which radio it is connected + rssi + snr + the data rate at which the client is connected.

Below is the small snippet of the output. As you can see, slot defines the radio(0 - 2.5 and 1 - 5 ). Also by looking at the channel, we will give get an idea of which radio they are connecting to as well.

Are you using Flexconnect local switching?

My first approach would be to use iPerf, if you get decent speeds on the local network but not to the Internet, the issue may be somewhere else.

And the basic checks, Good RSSI, SNR and channel utilization.
