I see that one needs a 50 AP license to run HA. We have two 5508s at our datacenter running about 22 APs. Both controllers have a 25 AP license as this was the old redundant model. Is it not possible to get these controllers into HA because they only have a 25 AP license? This seems like a poor restriction if true as this is a fairly critical building and it would be a shame to double the license just to do HA when it only has 22 APs.

50 AP is minimum on the WLC that contains license to run in HA. No way around this limitation.

Scott

Your probably better off keeping your setup as active active anyways.

Thanks, Scott. Why would you say we're better active active? I see some benefit to subsecond failover considering we run Cisco wireless 7925 phones. Although, it does sound like our option is to only do active active unless we double our license.

Both of your WLC's right now has an AP license of 25 AP's which is enough for active active. Which means that you have a failover right now. Why is it better... well HA isn't that stable and if one of your WLC's fail, the AP's will failover to the other AP, so you have redundancy right now.
Thanks,
Scott

Scott is right active active is better option for you in your scenario. And if you want to go for HA you need 50AP license. There is no way around.
