WCS Database Won't Start

We have WCS running on a VM, and due to some issues with the VM Infrastructure everything shut down abruptly.  The VM came back OK, but I just noticed that WCS no longer loads properly when attempting to access it via a browser.

Checking out the server, trying to reboot it, and restart services, I noticed that in the status check the database won't start.  Manually trying to use dbadmin to start it just fails.

Any ideas on what to try to fix the database?

Would using the reinitdb do anything to the existing configuration on the Wireless LAN Controller?

I'm kind of new at this and just got thrown into administering our Cisco Wireless network, so forgive me if any of these are basic questions.  Thanks!

I tried stopping WCS using the StopWCS.exe, rebooted the server, but there's still no change.  The services start up properly, but I think the database server still won't start.

The output of WCSStatus shows:

Health Monitor is running with an error.

WCS is stopped.

Database server is stopped

Apache server is running

Still stuck

Also, manually trying to launch WCSStart gives me the following -

Starting WCS

This may take a few minutes...

initHealthMonitor(): can not start DB

Failed to start WCS.  Check hm_launchout.txt for details.

Log files are located under webnms\logs in the WCS install directory.

hm_launchout.txt doesn't seem to have much info, it just shows this -
Starting Health Monitor as a primary
Checking for Port 8082 availability... OK
Starting Health Montior Web Server...
Health Monitor Web Server Started.
Starting Health Monitor Server...
Health Monitor Server Started.

Hi,

You can take a DB backup and uninstall the application and try installation fresh.

Then restore the DB, it will get resolved your issues..

or else check any firewall or same port is using in the machine. stop the all services like IIS and SMTP

Any result on this?
I have ran into almost the exact same problem/symptoms.

Is there a way to get a backup of the database without getting into the GUI?

Thanks

Chris

Hi,

I think suspect apache web server related process were running in your background(httpd.exe,rotatelogs.exe) task. Can you kill those process and start the WCS service. If it is still face this issue I am sure solid DB version is mismatch on the current WCS.

7.0.220.0 CCO build supports solid DB version is 04.50.0184

Try and let me know your observartion.
