Hello,

We saw some wireless disconnections randomly on a MAC client

The debug logs points to  this

Sep 20 10:55:50.826 *osapiBsnTimer 4-Way PTK Handshake, Client did not respond with M5
Sep 20 10:55:50.826 *Dot1x_NW_MsgTask_3 4-Way PTK Handshake, Retransmitting M5 retry #1
Sep 20 10:55:51.826 *osapiBsnTimer 4-Way PTK Handshake, Client did not respond with M5
Sep 20 10:55:51.826 *Dot1x_NW_MsgTask_3 4-Way PTK Handshake, Retransmitting M5 retry #2
Sep 20 10:55:52.826 *osapiBsnTimer 4-Way PTK Handshake, Client did not respond with M5
Sep 20 10:55:52.826 *Dot1x_NW_MsgTask_3 4-Way PTK Handshake, Retransmitting M5 retry #3
Sep 20 10:55:53.826 *osapiBsnTimer 4-Way PTK Handshake, Client did not respond with M5
Sep 20 10:55:53.826 *Dot1x_NW_MsgTask_3 4-Way PTK Handshake, Retransmitting M5 retry #4
Sep 20 10:55:54.826 *osapiBsnTimer 4-Way PTK Handshake, Client did not respond with M5
Sep 20 10:55:54.826 *Dot1x_NW_MsgTask_3 Client has been deauthenticated
Sep 20 10:55:54.826 *Dot1x_NW_MsgTask_3 Client expiration timer code set for 10 seconds. The reason: Roaming failed due to WLAN security policy mismatch between controllers (configuration error). It can also be used to report EAPoL retry errors, and GTK rotation failure (in 8.5)
Sep 20 10:56:04.826 *apfReceiveTask Client session has timed out
Sep 20 10:56:04.826 *apfReceiveTask Client expiration timer code set for 10 seconds. The reason: Client was marked for deletion, and it was on associated, power save or blacklist state. Other message would provide reason for delete
Sep 20 10:56:14.826 *apfReceiveTask Client has been deauthenticated
Sep 20 10:56:14.826 *apfReceiveTask Client session has timed out
Sep 20 10:56:14.826 *apfReceiveTask Client expiration timer code set for 10 seconds. The reason: Client has timedout during authentication at local controller, it is marked as idle, and deleted after timer expires. Possible client bouncing between Aps during authentication

What firmware is the WLC running on?

8.3.143

Disable FT.

I'm sorry to ask this, disabling FT would it really help as 802.1k was created for MAC books for a faster roaming experience.

The debug logs shows some mismatch in Security exchange, would that be related to FT?

Thanks

Because FT breaks stuff.

Hello George,

Does these problems occurs in what kind of devices?

I had exact this problem with iPhones endpoints, and i fixed with reboot WLC.

Thiago Nunes Marques IT Network Analyst

Depends on the firmware of the controller.
