WLC HA redundancy statistics !

Hi,

I dont have wlc for testing.I want to know what is meaning of “ping request and response” in wlc GUI “monitor > redundancy > statistics”.Is it represents do a auto ping or manual ping on active wlc and standby wlc?

And whether the “sent to peer” and “from peer’s ping” must equal?

thanks

the reachability of the other HA member will be checked by regular intervals.

yes, counters sent - recieved  are at best when they are equal.

But... Ping is a "best effort" type of packet,

so if you do not have a dedicated link between the two members,

under load some pings may be discarded in favour of "normal" data-packets.

and pings will be missed when for some reason the connectivity between the members is lost (e.g. member reload?)

-> no worries when packets recieved is little lower than packets sent.

==>> reset the statistics and monitor how many pings are missed under normal circumstances.

ADDED:

Ping Request and Response

Ping Requests sent to Peer

Displays the number of ping requests sent to peer through RMI.

Ping Response received from Peer

Displays the number of ping responses received from the peer through RMI.

so it is the count of pings over the network infrastructure using the RMI (Redundancy Management Interface)

This interface will check the health of the Active WLC via network infrastructure once the Active WLC does not respond to Keepalive messages on the Redundant Port.

-> ping counter does not increment when the redundacy port functions normally

Thanks for your response!

I still have a question to ask you.

As you said, does this ping count only increase when the RP fails? It is a keepalive packet between RMIs when the RP fails. Don't RMI keepalive packets use UDP packets like RP?

In addtion,If I manually execute the ping command from standby wlc to ping the RMI of active wlc, will the count also increase?

-> Prior to release 8.0, ICMP ping is used to heart-beat with the peer WLC over the Redundancy Management Interface. As part of this feature for release 8.0, ICMP ping is replaced with a UDP message.

If I manually execute the ping command from standby wlc to ping the RMI of active wlc, will the count also increase?

-> no (checked on wlc5508 running 8.5.140.0)

My wlc is release 8.2. You mean that although the udp packet is interactive, the reality is ping request and response?
