Cisco ASA 5500 Series 4-Port GE SSM

We currently have 2 asa 5510 firewalls and need to add the

Cisco ASA 5500 Series 4-Port GE SSM expansion module. Can this be added when the unit is powered on and running or does the firewall have to be powered off to install the expansion module?

I found out the part is not hot swapable.

has anyone every followed up on this ge ssm or is it solved by upgrading.  Sorry I have old dispatch process software using this old hardware and just thought I would check
