Do not extract the image. Simply use the CIVS-IPC-2XXX-V2.1.7.bin.gz file that you downloaded from Cisco.com to perform the upgrade.

Works like a charm. Thank you Sean.
Please see a question a posted under the Mass move of Cameras from one media server to another in VSM 6.2.0 post. I have a question about migrating user accounts between servers not linked via a network.

Hi Ainsley,
I'm glad Sean could resolve your issue. Please be aware that there are 2 enhancement requests I filed to prevent others from having similar problems with the VSMC camera upgrade process.
CSCti31580 - Require validation for VSMC Camera Firmware Upgrade Image. (Code the utility to perform a file check at least of the file suffix before attempting the upgrade)
CSCti31614 - VSM 6.3 Install Guide should list .gz as the file type for camera fw upgrade
Please pass the word. I know it's a bit confusing since upgrading the 25xx series cameras through their web interface requires using the extracted .bin, while the VSMC upgrade utility uses the compressed .gz file (which contains the .bin)
Thanks,
Jim
