VSM -Transition from an appliance to VM

Hi folks, starting a project here and thought I'd get some input.

We want to move a stand alone VSM server (CPS-MSP-1RU-K9) to a VM.

Currently we are on v7.6 and are about to upgrade to 7.7.

What is the procedure for moving from an appliance to a VM with VSM?

Do I upgrade all my servers to 7.7 first, do a backup on my VSM, turn off the 1RU , restore backup on the new VM and let it rip?

If anyone has any experience in this transition let me know if this sounds correct.

Thanks,

-Nick

Either way you can do it. build simultaneous VSM 7.6 on virtual environment and then restore the backup from bare metal to VM server then follow the upgrade to VSM 7.7

or upgrade your server VSM 7.7 then build VSM 7.7 VM and restore backup.
