Hi everyone.
Is there a "simple" procedure to install VSM 7 (and beyond) on a CIVS-MSP-2RU server that came with VSM 6 preinstalled (I mistakenly specified another server type before but edited it)?
I've found the tar file to reformat the server to 6.3.2, and a guide to reformat it to 7.0 (with a warning that this should be used on servers preinstalled with 7, which is not the case), but I can't find a simple guide to just do a clean install and a clean upgrade (not migration, as the customer doesn't need the previous data).
Does this exist? Do I have to open a TAC case for the upgrade to be done?
We already have:
L-CPS-M-OM-SW7
L-CPS-M-MS-SW7
L-CPS-M-SASD-7
Which in theory should cover the upgrade.
By the way, this server apparently came preinstalled with 6.2.0 (YaST says so). And it has SuSE 10 SP1.
I hope this server is upgradable, since on the download page I can only see mentions about servers that came preinstalled with 6.3, not way back to 6.2.
Please advice.
Thanks in advance.

We never migrate. Just export all of the CSVs reformat to the new import CSV and import.
If there is a site with a REHL and SUSE server, a file must be modified through putty for the system to work properly.
There is no file to fix it you have to go into a file and edit it. Attached is a copy of the putty session and below is an
outline of what we did.
sudo su -
cd /usr/BWhttpd/bin
ls
Look for the file called installHMconfigs
vi installHMconfigs
Toward the end of the program you will see an entry that looks like the following
cat <
sdt
ENDOFINPUT53,0-114%2,1 1049234567-- INSERT --49,714%87654321cho "ho "o " ""50cat <
No-Op
press letter I for insert
Change the code to look like the following
echo ""
#cat <
#sdt
#ENDOFINPUT53,0-114%2,1 1049234567-- INSERT --49,714%87654321cho "ho "o " ""50cat <
then save and quite

You will be upgrading. Going from 6.x to 7.x is considered a "migration" not an "upgrade" since it is a complete system change. But you don't have to actually migrate data during the "migration". The steps in this thread will get your 6.x to 7.x. I have some CIVS machines which migrated just fine using the procedure.

Thanks, that's encouraging. I'll be doing this tomorrow. Let's hope it'll work as is because I still don't have the means to reimage it from scratch.

I have an external USB DVD burner. Burn the 6.3.2 ISO to the DVD. You should be able to just plug it in to the USB port and reboot. It will try to rebuild the RAID. If you get an error or a freeze just reboot and try again. I had to do this three times on my last rebuild. Cisco said they had seen that before and was ok.

Great.
I'll do that and report (and rate) tomorrow.
Thanks everyone

I'm in a similar situation as the original poster. I was wondering if Cisco VSM 7.5 can be run on a CIVS-MSP-4RU with SLES 11 SP2? Or can it only be run on SLES 10 SP1?

Personally, I'm not sure if it would function as I haven't tried it. However, I can tell you that it is not supported by Cisco from any documentation I've seen.

We have tried 7.1&2 on the 4RU (3 sites) but have not been able to get the load critical errors to stop even after adjusting the metric previously mentioned. TAC took a wack at it but same result. I would move on with the new UCSC-C240-M3L build below. Run VSOM and MS in first 4C VM, Maps in second 4C VM. Next proc run a VM with the VMGS with 4C and then CPAM in last VM 4C. One box solution with lots of horse power.

Remove the VSM Express from the BOM.

You know I did a similar build a quote and it would be cheaper to get a brand new physical security system than in my case get SLES 10 SP1 support for the first time since the software is EoL.

use the migration sku pricing. Also there is a UCS Breakaway promotion that is 70 off for the server. YOur AM should be working with you on that anyway. combine that with migration sku pricing and VSM express if less than 32 cameras.

This is not a PSBU supported procedure.
It will not migrate any of your cameras or video from 6.3.x to 7.x.
Please contact the Migration mailer for further assistance on 6 -> 7 migrations
