Hi Shah,

I'm assuming you've actually tried 'admin' for the VSOM username as opposed to 'localadmin'?  The local, underlying Linux account for CDAF/VSMC is typically 'localadmin', while the VSOM system administrator account stored in the VSOM database is typically 'admin' and NOT localadmin.

Also, as a tip... if you are inheriting responsibility for this system and are truly locked out, try the last documented known password and add a '2, 3, or 4' on the end of the password (as VSM typically requires the occasional password change and humans are sometimes lazy).

If this still does not work, I believe there *are* some undocumented VSOM password recovery techniques, but I'm only guessing as they are things I've discovered myself through my own experimentation.

Hi Mate's

Appreciate your response. This site is under my control. Once i visit there i will try again and let you know the output.

thanks alot.

Try 'admin' for a username, and the same password as was used for the OS 'localadmin' account to log into the VSOM application page.  It's a long shot... but I know a lot of installs where the localadmin and VSOM admin account shared the same password.

Cheers!

Connect to your VSM via console or SSH.
Login with "root" (you must know password for "root", default password is secur4u)
After you log in, enter the command passwd localadmin
And type new password twice
That all

This likely isn't going to help.  It appears from the screenshots and post that the user already has the valid credentials for the 'localadminaccount.

It helps, because you must login as 'root' account, not 'localadmin' account.

On the screenshots you can see that my user is  'root'. This account typically  used for initial setup.

I suppose that this depends on the VSM image that you are working with.  If you have a real old install of VSM that has been repeatedly upgraded, you may have had access to the initial root account, yes.  On newer base installs/images at some point in the 7.X line, direct access to the root account was never really given; only initial credentials for the 'localadmin' account on the underlying OS (which you *could* then use to switch to root with 'su -').

Still, both the 'root' and 'localadminaccounts are OS level user accounts, whereas the VSOM admin account exists in a VSOM database table.

I think it may be possible to *manually* update this DB record to reset the VSOM admin account, but I'm not 100%.  There may actually be a shell script to do so, but I haven't dug too deep yet.

Hi Shahbaz,

Nice to see you here and posting your queries on forum.

You cannot use the "localadmin" username for logging into the VSOM logging page. It's only meant for VSMC ( management console) logging page.

The default password for VSOM login page is:

Username: admin

Password: admin

In case even with the default password you are not able to access with default password, let me know i can help you to reset the VSOM admin password with the DB command.

Thanks,

Hi Shahbaz,

Hope you are doing well too. Thanks for reaching out.

What is the error coming while logging, please share the snapshot. If you are not getting VSOM login page, then may be need to check on the service status, or DB running status.

Kindly share the info.

Thanks,

Jayesh
