For my home lab, I just purchased the above referenced EtherSwitch module.  I get this pertaining to the card on boot:

Press RETURN to get started!

*Oct 14 14:58:22.307: %PA-3-NOTSUPPORTED: PA in slot1 (Unknown (type 65535)) is not supported on this image.
Please issue "show diag" in fully loaded IOS image
to get the PA's information and verify if it is supported
by this image, a newer version may be needed.

**I also have tried IOS 12.4T with image file "c2800nm-ipbase-mz.124-25f.bin"

I've looked at the following resources and performed the hardware installation verbatim according to the guide:

http://docstore.mik.ua/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_mod/cis2600/hw_inst/wic_inst/wic_doc/vwicpdf.pdf

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/interfaces-modules/network-modules/82288-es-mod-config.html?referring_site=RE&pos=1&page=http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/routers/3800-series-integrated-services-routers-isr/product_data_sheet...

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/interfaces-modules/interface-cards/71820-routermodules.html

anyone have suggestions on where to go from here?  I reseated the card and looked at the connectors and everything looks good and doesn't smell like fried electronics.  No LEDs or lights on the EtherSwitch card.

Thanks!

UPDATE:  I noticed that I have 1 DIMM slot filled with ECC RAM, and 1 DIMM slot with non-ECC RAM.  IOS has thus disabled ECC RAM usage on this platform.  Thoughts on this interaction with the EtherSwitch?
