We cannot access our wireless modem because the Cisco router is blocking it.  When I try to access the router through a browser I get a message that the router is blocking access.  HELP!!

Hi Jeannette. The RV016 is not a wireless product. If you are able to connect with a wired connection and browse the internet without issues, the RV016 is not the cause of the problem for wireless. The wireless box would be the culprit if your wired connections have no issues.

Hi Jeannette, Modems are not wireless. If your service provider has provided a Wireless device, it is a router/modem combo device.

If you connect your computer directly to the ISP box, can you tell me what IP address your computer receives?

It actually is already connected directly to the computer.  All the other computers (6) connect to the internet via the network with this computer.  How do I check for an IP address?

Jeannette

Hi Jeanette, on a Windows computer do the following

Click start menu -> All programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt.

Your Windows should prompt asking for permission, agree to this. A black dialogue box will open. On this box type  ipconfig

There will be a section that says Ethernet Local Area connection. Then it will say something like

IPv4 address

Subnet mask

Default gateway

Can you tell me what those 3 values are?

(1)  192.168.2.100

(2)  255.255.255.0

(3)  192.168.2.1

Thanks Jeannete, do you have a wireless connection activated while connecting the RV016 router? What is the IP address of the RV016 router?

Okay, I just double checked and the Westell router is plugged into the Internet port of the RV016 router.  The RV016 is plugged into the ethernet port on the server computer.   We get internet fine on all the computers, but we do not have wireless access for other machines.  The Westell router has wireless.  The wireless light is not on.  I called CenturyLink who work with the Westell router and they told me it is the Cisco router that is stopping the wireless.  My Cisco router is over a year old, so here I am.

The RV016 IP address is:  192.168.2.100.

I can't get the computer to find the wireless connection.  When I originally set up the RV016, I didn't activate a wireless connection.  I wish I would have!

Okay, I just accessed the router!!  I unplugged and replugged the ethernet cords in the RV016 and it let me access it.  Where do I activate it for wireless?
