RV042g lose wan ip

Hi,

5 minutes after the router get it's IP it looses contact. I can see that it still sends packets but it receives none. After talks with isp support I have been told that their DHCP server received a ip release request and therefore dropped contact.

System Summary displays old IP/gate/dns as if it still had contact. System log shows no errors (if NSD is off).

If I click on the release/renew then it connects again with the same ip and work in additional 5 minutes.

I have two rv042g (want to put up L2L VPN) and they are used with two different ISP with fiber connection to the city network. Both works i in place A and none of them in place B. At both locations other routers from different manufacturers  works without any problems (with the same dyn-ip or simultaneously with other dyn-ip).

Have the latest firmware installed, but also tried to install older but no difference. Router configuerd with defult settings (factory reset).

Have tried first to connect with dyn-ip and then set up the same ip/gate/dns as fixed and even then it only works for a few minutes before it disconnects.

What is also strange is that when I got fiber istallerad, six weeks ago, I could set up and run L2L between these routers without problems for 2 weeks. After this I have not been able to get it started again (more than 5 minutes). ISP claim that they have not made any changes but it is not they who stand for fiber installation.

Would be very grateful for any suggestions that might lead me forward.

Thanks.

Hello,

I hope you are doing great. in case you are still having the issue I would like to advise you to connect a computer to the WAN port and set up an static WAN IP on the router, then do an extended ping just to confirm that the port is not dropping connection. Trying to isolate the issue from the ISP.

Regards,

Thank's for your suggestion, I will try it. It must be a compatibility problem with their dhcp server. If I connect it at another site with another isp it works. The isp is one of the largest and have good reputation but they can't help individuals an suggest I ask Cisco for support...

I use a old Netgear prosafe router for the moment and it has worked for 2 month without problem but I cant use it for l2l.

Best regards
Håkan

Thank you for letting us know that was a very good idea to test the device isolating from the ISP. I hope you resolve that with the ISP, any other question please don’t hesitate to contact Cisco
