HI everyone,
I am looking for a good router with integrated security for VPN and firewalling for my home and I stumbled on this device. I've been working with Cisco devices for quite a while now but I never had the chance to work with this series. So I don't know what to expect.
So before I pull the trigger and buy the said device, I have couple of questions that I've been unfortunately unable to find the answer in the white papers or on any forums.
1. Can you see the "connection" table or the "nat" table on the device?
2. Can you block specific ports in the firewall rules or it's certain preconfigured services?
3. Are the log similar to any cisco device and can be analyzed and sent to a syslog server?
4. What if I don't have a licence for the device? What feature do I lose? How long last the licence and how much does it cost?
5. Can you do port-channels on the lan interfaces?
6. Is the support for cisco umbrella covers all the offered features?
7. How much cost a cisco umbrella licence for this device?
8. What's the difference between this device and an ASA before the performances?
Thank you for your time and your answers!

Most of the information on this models we rely on datasheet, but outcome i have noticed in the community was varied person to person (reason no idea)
My personal advice before you buy, make some research of any bugs and product stability.
here is a good Link of Emulator, cisco offer you can do your own changes, (may not be saved)
From 4 to 8
- All the Licenses required to buy in the Product Page down below :
8. You can not or never even compare with ASA with these devices, ASA is Enterprise Level FW does a different Job, this RV is more of SMB all in one device.
Hope this makes sense?

Look to the RV160w instead! Less buggy, cheaper and better. Has four VLANs. wi-fi galore. The RV340 has higher VPN throughput, but so what. The RV160w replaces the RV215w which was plagued with faults, and a very slow VPN throughput. The RV340 has settable firewall but reports to you, confusingly. The RV215w reports well, which was its principal virtue IMHO. RV160w reports well.

Hi there,
Here are my two cents on this. See inline.
1. Can you see the "connection" table or the "nat" table on the device?
No.
2. Can you block specific ports in the firewall rules or it's certain preconfigured services?
Yes, you can. You can block custom services (ports) on the firewall allow and deny rules.
3. Are the log similar to any cisco device and can be analyzed and sent to a syslog server?
Yes, you can configure to send specified (different categories of logs or all logs) to a remote Syslog Server.
4. What if I don't have a licence for the device? What feature do I lose? How long last the licence and how much does it cost?
The device is fully operational without using the license. Using the RV Security License (LS-RV34X-SEC-1YR=) will enable the Dynamic web filtering, Intrusion Prevention, Gateway Anti Virus, Application Visibility, and Client Identification and Statistics. You do have 90 days free trial period you can test those advanced security features at no cost. There are two different forms of the license for purchase, the 12 months with renewal and the 12-month flat fee:
5. Can you do port-channels on the lan interfaces?
Yes, you can configure static LAG on the RV34x LAN interfaces.
6. Is the support for cisco umbrella covers all the offered features?
Yes. More information available at:
7. How much cost a cisco umbrella licence for this device?
You should get in touch with a local Cisco reseller or ask for a quote from any of the e-commerce (https://www.cdw.com/product/cisco-umbrella-branch-subscription-license-1-year-1-router/6067120). I've seen prices between 100-140 USD.
8. What's the difference between this device and an ASA before the performances?
The ASA is a Cisco enterprise-grade firewall that is managed through CLI or Cisco ASDM whereas RV340 is a very entry-level Cisco Business Security Gateway which is part of the Small Business devices. It is not IOS-based like the ASA and can be managed only through web GUI and the Cisco Business Dashboard.

Martin
