Is it possible to reset the router if the reset button is broken and the web interface pwd is unknown? I can get to the console port. Is it possible to send a break on startup and set the Config-register 0x2102? TIA

Yes, it is possible to re-flash the firmware via USB stick without web or console access. This is used to restore functionality in case of corrupted firmware preventing the router from booting.

However, to the best of my knowledge this procedure does NOT delete the config of the device. So config and passwords are not reset during this process, meaning you still have no access.

I am not aware of any method to delete the config/passwords without web or console access or working reset button. Sorry!

 - @s1owtalker    No , essentially not because these devices don't support Config-register.  Working reset button must be considered as a mandatory  part on the device  ,

Hello @s1owtalker,

as @Mark Elsen mentioned correctly, there is no password recovery process available for the RV340 via console. These routers do not run classic IOS and therefore, you cannot use the config-register or break-sequence procedures to get access.

The reset button is the one and only option to do a factory reset. Hence you need to replace or fix the button.

On the RV340 there isn’t a ROMMON/config-register mechanism like IOS routers — it runs on a Linux-based platform, so you can’t send a break and bypass passwords the same way.

If the reset button is physically broken and you don’t have the web GUI password, the only supported option is to RMA/repair the unit. There’s no console “password recovery” documented for RV series.

Some people have replaced the reset switch hardware or re-flashed firmware over USB/console, but that’s not officially supported. From Cisco’s standpoint: without the reset button, you can’t wipe config, and console access won’t override the admin password.

Hello Stefan, TY. Since I'm essentially looking at a dead device then and there is nothing to lose, would you happen to know how to do this "re-flashed firmware over USB/console"?
