1U replacement for 2900 Router?

Hi,

We are looking to replace around 30 2921 routers. These currently have a 48 port modules installed and are very heavy. They are installed in plastic rolling gator cases and are pulled back and forth weekly. The duties of these mobile cases has shifted so that we dont need 48 ports anymore. Maybe 6-12.

Is there something that has all the functionality of the 2900 (which is end of life) but in a 1U formfactor that has a few extra ports similar to a switch-module/hw-module that can be configured as access ports?

Cisco recommends a 4000 ISR?

Thanks for your help

Looking deeper it seems that a 4331 would be close to what I'm looking for? Any thoughts on this?

The best replacement for Catalyst 2960-X/XR would be Catalyst 9200 Series switches.  See https://cs.co/catalyst 9200 or https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/switches/catalyst-9200-series-switches/index.html

Sorry, its a 2921 ISR, not a switch.

What WAN interfaces do you need?  Only Ethernet by chance?

What features are you using?  Basic routing?  Any security or VPN or VoIP processing?

You may be able to use other options, like a 24 port L3 switch - depending on the features needed.

There are also low cost options like the C1111-8P with 8 built in LAN ports and dual Gigabit WAN ports.
