Hi, I found documention I thought supported the idea that the 2901 was able to hold v2 WICs from teh 2900 series data sheet
The EHWIC slot provides enhancements to the prior generation’s high-speed WAN interface card
(HWIC) slots while provide maximum investment protection by natively supporting HWICs, WAN
interface cards (WICs), voice interface cards (VICs), and voice/WAN interface cards (VWICs).
● Four integrated EHWIC slots on the Cisco 2901, 2911, 2921, and 2951 allow for more flexible
configurations.
● Each HWIC slot offers high-data-throughput capability:
Up to 1.6 Gbps aggregate toward the route processor
Up to 2 Gbps aggregate to other module slots over the MGF
● Flexibility to support double-wide modules is enabled by combining two EHWIC slots. Up to 2 doublewide
HWIC (HWIC-D) modules are supported.
but after installing the WICs I get a bootup message:
wic card in location 0/0 has an unknown id
Anyone been able to use v2 WICs in the new Cisco platforms?
thank you,
Bill

That is just a general marketing statement.
The PDF I've linked above is the authoritative compatibility information for ISR G2.

Most likely you're using old, unsupported WICs.
Show diag will tell for sure.

sh diag leaves a little wiggle room. It reads they're either not enabled or not supported.

I see that, but it seems to be contradictory to the data sheet for the 2900.

It looks like Marketing needs to touch base with tech somewhere at Cisco. Thank you for your help.

William,
The supported modules and WICs are pretty clear when you read the documentation for the ISRG2 series. Don't rely on the general marketing verbiage, as they usually make broad strokes. Always read the tech docs and supported features and hardware before planning and purchasing.
