2951 Router does not recognise VWIC2-2MFT-G703 Card

                  I have a Cisco 2951 Router with image  "c2951-universalk9-mz.SPA.150-1.M3.bin". Surprisingly, it does not recognise nor does it accept VWIC2-2MFT-G703 Cards. I have also tried it with HWIC cards but the same problem.

In the process of troubleshooting, I have upgraded the image to the level of its peers who acknowledge and accept the same cards, but success was not recorded.

What can possibly be wrong with the card or the router, and how can it be possibly fixed?

According to this page the module should work in your 2951

Have you tried this module in another router to check on the possibility that there is a fault in the module?

There is a note on that page that operation may be dependent on what other modules are installed on the router. Perhaps it might help if you post the output of show version and the output of show inventory.

I have tried the modules on similar routers (called 2951-B), and it works fine there. But has not worked on this particular one (2951-A), even after the image has been upgraded to the version of 2951-B.

Thanks for the additional information. I notice that the first rotuer has this Service Module SM-ES2-24-P: EtherSwitch  while the second router does not. I would suggest that you remove the Service Module and then try the VWIC again.

I have not done that before, and never really considered that option.

In any case, I would do that like tomorrow evening because the router is currently deployed in some location far from where i am.

I need to get a good hand to remove the ES2-24-P Etherswitch, and test with it.

I can not say with any certainty that the Etherswitch is the problem. But it is the main difference that I see between the router that does accept the VWIC and the router that does not.

I recognize the difficulty in testing when the router is in a remote location. Please do the testing and let us know the results. My Email address is part of my profile in the community and you should be able to find it there.
