I had tryed to upgrade the IOS for 3845 from advanced ip base to advanced enterprice version router having 128MB flash and 256MB DDRRAm router fails to boot from THe new IOS and gives me an error message %SYS-6-READ_BOOTFILE_FAIL: flash:c3845-adventerprisek9-mz.124-15.XY.bin File read failed -- Not enough space.

boot of "c3845-adventerprisek9-mz.124-15.XY.bin" using boot helper "flash:c3845-advipservicesk9-mz.124-5b.bin" failed
error returned: File read failed -- Not enough space
loadprog: error - on file open
boot: cannot load "c3845-adventerprisek9-mz.124-15.XY.bin"
can any one answer what this error is wether it is related to the DDR ram

Hi, which rommon version do you have, you might need an upgrade.

Hi,
The Adv Enterprise version IOS requires minimum 256MB DRAM. In actual working environment it requires more than that depending on the feature set configuration and routing table entries.
You need to increase the RAM.

Hi, Alinus stated he has 256 MB RAM (standard on 3845) so the problem isn't that.

Hi,
The image needs 64MB FLASH and 256DRAM and you have that.
The error means you don't have enough memory to decompress the image. Cisco IOS Image is compressed and need to decompress it to Memory in order to use it.
Try removing all modules/interfaces (while the router is power down and all cabling is disconnected) before powering up your router, this will free up I/O Memory. This is just for checking and isolation, I don't mean that you don't need those modules :) My 3845 router takes up 40MB Memory for I/O
