Alarms on WIC cards- and they are not in show hardware either.

I have several 2811s before me.

They each have VPN module,

VWIC-1MFT-T1 channelized T1 and WIC-1DSU-T1-V2 WICs.

I booted one and the WIC-1DSU-T1 does not appear at bootup time in console output.

The VWIC does appear, as you can see below.

I thought, that's odd, so in looking at the WICs they have yellow alarms on them. AIM0 on the chasis is also illuminated yellow.

I did a write erase, that didn't change anything.

Here's the show hardware:

Cisco 2811 (revision 53.51) with 247808K/14336K bytes of memory.

Processor board ID FTX1023A3DD

2 FastEthernet interfaces

1 Serial interface

1 Channelized T1/PRI port

1 Virtual Private Network (VPN) Module

DRAM configuration is 64 bits wide with parity enabled.

239K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory.

62720K bytes of ATA CompactFlash (Read/Write)

Configuration register is 0x2102

I looked at several more units and they all have similar symptoms.

Alarms, WICs not in the console. It's not normal to have so many failures.

These were taken out of a moved data center.

I haven't had much experience with bad WICs.

Could these all be actually bad?  Or is there something I am missing?

I have nothing plugged into the unit except power and my console cable. I first thought the alarms might be a setting because of loss of carrier, or connection, something.  Which is why I did the write erase.

WIC-1DSU-T1

I don't think this is supported on the 2800.

For 2800 you need the HWIC-1DSU-T1.

Well, this is hard to understand.  As Leo says the HWIC is supported.  But here it seems to say those same slots support WICs:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/routers/2800-series-integrated-services-routers-isr/prod_qas0900aecd80169bd6.html

Interface card slots: Each version can accommodate HWICs. These HWIC slots also support VICs, VWICs, and WICs. Alternatively, two side-by-side HWIC slots can be substituted to seat one double-wide HWIC (HWIC-D).

4 slots total: 2 slots support HWIC, WIC, VIC, or VWIC type modules, where 1 of the 2 slots supports WIC, VIC, or VWIC type modules and the other slot (2 of 2) supports VIC or VWIC type modules

Hi Steve,

I believe it's supported.

Could you post 'show diag'?
