ASR-1004 with ESP40 and SIP40 No more than 16GB of Traffic

Hello,

Has anyone had a problem like this?

I have an ASR-1004 with ESP-40 and SIP-40 and the traffic comes when it reaches 16GB.

I have two port-channels, making 20GB of uplink and 20GB of downlink.

But the traffic is no more than 20GB.

The box is used for PPPoE and CGNAT.

Best regards,
Fernando

Hello @Fernando Almondes ,

This can explain the reduced performance that you see on the device as both services use many resources  and your scenario cannot be compared to simple routing where the device just performs packet rewrite between interfaces.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Re: ASR-1004 with ESP40 and SIP40 No more than 16GB of Traffic

Hi Giuseppe Larosa,

I checked and even at peak times, the box does not show it is using high processing or memory.

The QFP works at a maximum of 60%.

And the processing itself is no more than 30% overall.

We increased the hold-queue, we have tried different versions of software, but nothing has resolved.

Best regards,
Fernando

Re: ASR-1004 with ESP40 and SIP40 No more than 16GB of Traffic

Hello @Fernando Almondes ,

I understand your point of view.

I tried to look at data sheet for performance data of CGNAT with no success.

At this point if this issue is causing an impact I would suggest to open a ticket with Cisco TAC and ask them if your performance are the expected ones or there is something that can be improved in the configuration if any.

if we look at the performance data we see that for example for encypted data the declared performance is lower then the stated performance for clear text traffic.

For CGNAT there can be a global max number of NAT sessions that can be supported at the same time and this might be the indirect reason for your limited troughtput.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

The bootstrap of these components are way off.

Has anyone ever considered upgrading the bootstrap?

Hello @Leo Laohoo,

Thanks for the answer.

We have already considered, but we did not imagine that it could be influencing.

I will perform the update, and return here.

Do you recommend a specific version of IOS and firmware?

Best regards,
Fernando

@Leo Laohoo,

Thanks for the answer.

Does any version of IOS specify?

Re: ASR-1004 with ESP40 and SIP40 No more than 16GB of Traffic

No, it is not specific to any version.
The ROMMON of the line cards have never been updated before (will require a reboot).
Might try that first and see if it makes any improvements.
