Available flash missing on 897 Router

rasmus.elmholt

Level 7

Hi,

I am trying to upgrade a 897 router with 254MB Flash. But when I look at the available flash there is not enough to transfer the new IOS over.

Where have the rest of the flash gone?

Hi
800s come with very low flash space, you will need to force delete the ios and upload the new one , make sure it doesn't reboot before new ios is in place or it will go to rommon

delete /force /recursive flash:c880data-universalk9-mz.153-3.M5.bin

least you have a second flash , its not gone anywhere you just get very little , mines about 100mb each device

Hi Mark

I agree that some of the 897 have only 128MB flash, but this model have 256MB. So the flash is not the problem as far as I can see.

Not sure may be my ignorance, i have looked your output, you got space available, what was the issue ?

how big size new image ? what is the version ?

hmm ok ye it doesnt count near 256 total , mine is 126 but im only getting about 100mb
your show version shows 256000 available ye like below ...

256000K bytes of ATA CompactFlash (Read/Write)

Exactly. I find it strange. I have the same problem on about 4-6 routers out of 100 in total. The rest is fine.

Hi BB

The new image is 68MB and I only have 64MB free.
The strange thing is I am upgrading 100 Routers of almost the same model, and only 4-6 of them have this problem. The rest is fine.
They all have 256MB flash according to show ver.

That looks strange, may be different Manufacturing batch looks like for me.

yes was thinking that too part of a bad batch maybe , are they physically the same , 2 flash cards in the working routers also or just 1 flash of 256 ? are the show versions from working and non working the same

did you try format the flash on any of them to see of it makes a difference
