Where can I get information on how to assign loopback addresses in a large network, how to use loopback interfaces and so on?

Hi there,
In my network, I use to monitor the router itself.Since the loopback interface never goes down, I monitor the router based on loopback address. If the loopback down,I will know that, one of my router is down.

Hi,
Loopback interface is also greatly in used for routing protocal. Example, in OSPF environment if a interface goes down OSPF will recalculate the routes and does a multicast flood to other routers.
Since loopback never down except router down, it is a good practices. I used them a lot during routing.
Best regards,
Lawrence

I realize this was posted some years ago, but I am wondering what you ended up doing and if you found any additional information?
Does anyone else have a whitepaper or SRND they can reference?
