BGP and EIGRP - Adjusting AD

Hello,

I need recommendation/advice.

R2 should prefer EIGRP route to the 10.30.0.0/16 subnet and we are considering two options:

1. adjust AD for one EIGRP route so it will be less than eBGP AD (green)

2. adjust AD for eBGP protocol to 200, so it will be more than EIGRP (blue)

I have heard that this is common practice to change eBGP AD to 200.

Are there pros and cons for both options? Best practices?

Thank you for your time.

Is the 10.30 truly separate or are you just wanting to prefer out that side? You could potentially use bgp pre-pending if you are just trying to prefer the other side. You would still prefer BGP in that example. You can then solve it with route-maps.

I do not specifically have any preference. I have just recently did the exact same thing. I chose to lower EIGRP to 19. I obtained the result I was trying to accomplish which was similar to yours. It does cause EIGRP to converge so do it during maintenance window.

Thank you for your answer.

We just want to prefer EIGRP route from R2.

Hi

Does this eigrp peer with 10.30.0.0/16 is advertising any mpls subnets?

To avoid that R2 take eigrp path to access mpls sites, I would prefer lowering down eigrp for this /16 and keep ebgp with its default AD.

Thanks
Francesco
