We have a Cisco 2921 router that has been working for several years. Our connection suddenly dropped during operation and the only solution that worked was to use the ISP’s provided ip address. No changes have been made previously on our router that caused the sudden traffic failure. What really puzzles me is that our old router works with the old config set.
Here are the info.
Old config:
G0/1 - 2.2.2.254 (in) (our ip)
G0/2 – 3.3.3.114 (out) (ISP ip)
firewall (out) - 2.2.2.253 (our ip)
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 3.3.3.113
isp(3.3.3.113) -- (3.3.3.114)router(2.2.2.254) -- (2.2.2.253)firewall(1.1.1.253) -- LAN(1.1.1.0)
------------
New router config:
G0/1 – 4.4.4.209 (in) (ISP provided ip)
G0/2 – 3.3.3.114 (out) (ISP ip)
firewall (out) - 4.4.4.210 (ISP provided ip)
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 3.3.3.113
isp(3.3.3.113) -- (3.3.3.114)router( 4.4.4.209) -- (4.4.4.210)firewall(1.1.1.253) -- LAN(1.1.1.0)
----------
I need the old config due to some services we are hosting using our own ip.
Any idea?
Thanks

If there was no configuration changes, you owned the previous IP address segment and all of a sodden the connection drops, maybe because someone in your organization did not pay the yearly fee. There is a yearly fee for IP address assignment as well as AS number, unless you get them from your ISP.

thank you for your answer Reza. like mentioned, our old router works using the old config with our own ip addresses.
