Cisco 4321 router question.

We were going through a comparison between the Cisco 4xxx series of routers.

The Cisco 4321 mentions the form factor as the 1 rack unit (RU) Desktop. I would like to know what does this exactly mean?
Is this some king of software running on a desktop or it is just the form factor that makes it look small in size and hence call as a Desktop?

Thanks!!

Hello,

rack unit means it is 1.75 inches (or 44.45mm) in height. Since these devices are typically mounted to racks, the unit measurement allows you to calculate how much space they will take up in your rack.

Check this link as well:

A Rack Unit is one way to describe the physical dimension of a piece of equipment. I believe that what this is saying is that the 4321 could be mounted in a rack but is small enough that it does not require a data rack and could be placed on a desktop to run.

The 4321 is a physical router. It is not some kind of software running on a desktop.
