Cisco 7206 VXR NPE-G1 Flash

Hi,

Need some suggestions in getting my 7200 back up and running.  Long story short I formatted my 7200 CF in another platform as I needed to lab something rather quickly and totally forget my 7200 boots from this.  Problem is the 7200 will no longer recognise that flash as its was formatted in a different system and I cannot get my 7200 up to format it, kind of a catch 22 situation.

No one I know has a 7200, we have some running in prod in DC`s however I dont want to touch those.  Can anyone suggest an easy solution?  Is there an alternative platform I can format the CF in that the 7200 recognises?  Already tried a 2800, 3700 and 3800 series but no luck.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Lee.

Hi Lee,

I guess you talking about DISK as they are in 7200 series.

Try formating it via following router command:

format disk X ( where X is you slot, should be generally 2)

If this doesn't work then try formating it using FAT16 filesystem via any windows or linux system and probably it should work.

Hi,

thanks for the reply, problem is I can only get into ROMMON as I dont have a formatted Disk(Catch 22), which does not have the format command

As you can see all I have is this

rommon 6 > ?

alias               set and display aliases command

boot                boot up an external process

break               set/show/clear the breakpoint

confreg             configuration register utility

cont                continue executing a downloaded image

context             display the context of a loaded image

cpu_card_type       display CPU card type

dev                 list the device table

dir                 list files in file system

dis                 disassemble instruction stream

frame               print out a selected stack frame

help                monitor builtin command help

history             monitor command history

meminfo             main memory information

repeat              repeat a monitor command

reset               system reset

rommon-pref         Select ROMMON

set                 show all monitor variables

showmon             display currently selected ROM monitor

show_spd            show all SPD data

stack               produce a stack trace

sync                write monitor environment to NVRAM

sysret              print out info from last system return

unalias             unset an alias

unset               unset a monitor variable

I formatted the CF using FAT 16.  From ROMMON if I try to look at the disk/CF

rommon 4 > dir slot2:

device does not contain a valid magic number

dir: cannot open device "slot2:"

rommon 5 > dir disk2:

device does not contain a valid magic number

dir: cannot open device "disk2:"

The annoying thing is there seems to have been a file on the Bootflash: which I could have booted to, which would have a format command but its marked deleted and I cannot boot from it.

rommon 7 > dir bootflash:

         File size           Checksum   File name

   8103684 bytes (0x7ba704)   0x38ef057e    c7200-kboot-mz.124-12.bin (deleted)

So im stuck without access to another 7200 with a running IOS it seems.

Lee.

Hi Lee,

As a last alternate, try formating it using linux system if you have one.

Also, just make sure the disk number, easiest way will be to have context help.

Just try

SH DIS?

If formating card doesn't work, then it is time you search for some online router which can format CF card for you...

Hi,

Thanks again for your reply.  That did`nt work either.

Ive tried tracing someone down who has access to a 7200 (or even a 6500 series should do the trick I believe) however had no luck.  Found one guy who said he could help(Ebay ), but that flash has gone mysteriously gone missing in the post. Should have known better but had no other option.

If anyone in the UK does have a non prod 7200 that doest`nt mind formatting a flash card that I can supply please drop me a line.  Otherwise Im a little stuck.

Lee.

Hi,

I am in India an I have a offline 7206vxr for my sp lab. There are 2 trhings that you could do. Firstly my router , if flash not present bill boot to a default image where all diagonistics could be carried out.

Secondly, you could courier it down to me ( I know India sounds far) and have it picked up sometime later and I could format it for you.

Have a look.
