Hello,

I've just taken delivery of some Cisco 887's. I've noticed that on power up, it shows 1 ethernet interface and 4 fastethernet interfaces, yet there

are only 4 physical ethernet interfaces, can anyone tell me what the 1 ethernet interface is?

Thanks

Hi,

It's ADSL2/2+ over POTS (Annex A).  Please check this link.

Hi,

In 877 all interfaces are switch ports (L2 ports) except the FastEthernet4 where you can termintate your WAN link like DSL...

See the below interface output from on of my 877.

#sh ip int brief
Interface                  IP-Address      OK? Method Status                Protocol
FastEthernet0              unassigned      YES unset  up                    down
FastEthernet1              unassigned      YES unset  up                    down
FastEthernet2              unassigned      YES unset  up                    up
FastEthernet3              unassigned      YES unset  up                    up
FastEthernet4              85.102.189.206  YES NVRAM  up                    up

Please click on the correct answer on all posts if they answered your question.

Thanks for the replies. On power up I see the following interfaces

1 DSL controller
1 Ethernet interface
4 FastEthernet interfaces
1 ATM interface
1 Virtual Private Network (VPN) Module
256K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory.
125440K bytes of ATA CompactFlash (Read/Write)

And show ip int br  shows

Interface                  IP-Address      OK? Method Status                Prol
ATM0                       unassigned      YES unset  administratively down dow
Ethernet0                  unassigned      YES unset  administratively down dow
FastEthernet0              unassigned      YES unset  up                    dow
FastEthernet1              unassigned      YES unset  up                    dow
FastEthernet2              unassigned      YES unset  up                    dow
FastEthernet3              unassigned      YES unset  up                    dow
Vlan1                      unassigned      YES unset  up                    dow

so I still dont really understand the 5 ethernet interfaces

Hi,

Sorry guys, I missed reading what you posted. Its not a physical interface. Ethernet0 is a virtual interface that is used for VDSL configuration.
