Cisco 897 VDSL profiles

Hello, I am looking for new VDSL modem. I am sick of crappy 20€ solutions, so I found 897. However - I am not sure about it’s max VDSL speed. There should be 35b profile (ISP sells 250 Mbps and it should be real - 250m from DSLAM).

So, what is the max speed for 897VA?

Thanks 😌

We have deployed a large number of Cisco 897's.

If your ISP uses PPPoE it maxs out (aka runs out of CPU) around 160Mb/s.  If your ISP uses DHCP it gets up to around 190Mb/s.  This is when using it with the Gigabit Ethernet WAN port and a typical NAT + firewall configuration.

I'm not sure about 35b profile support.  I don't think we have ever had a customer that close.  The best connection I remember is about 70Mb/s on VDSL.  It definately supports profile 17a.

Note that the Cisco 897 has now been replaced by the 1100 series routers.  I found this document mentioned profile 35b support.

Hello,

it depends on what you are running on the router, but with a simple NAT overload configuration, you should be able to get around 500Mbps...

I have found the interesting read below, you might want to have a look:
