Solved: cisco router 3845 CPU reach to 100%

Hi there, recently one of our 3845 router start to play around. every day between 1PM to 3PM, the CPU reach the 100% and cause all the link down for a few minutes. I have checked the data throught put in interface is normal (40% bandwidth utilzation) and temperature is also normal. I can not worked out why this happens, Has anyone experienced similiar issue? any suggestion on where should I start to look into it? thanks in advance. Roy

Hi Roy,

Whic is the IOS on the device. Also can you tell more regarding the setup of your networ(frame-realy,point-to-point) and the number of eigrp neighbors. Are the neighbors configured as stub?

Hi Sathvik...sorry for the delay, just try to capture the information, most time the system frozens, but today I manage to get some details while it happens. details as following, please let me know what is your thought on what is the possible cuase. Byt the way, we switch router alst night and this happens to the new router, so we can eliminate the possiblilty of the hardware issue. . Thanks in advance.

Hi Sathvik,

the IOS version is 12.3(14)T6, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

this router has been setup as hub and has 4 mb link to TPG network, there are around 7 sites connected it via GRE tunnel. same rouer also connect to other router which might connect to AT&T and other Carrier. we have this router for years never had issue. as I mension, we also change the router, but problem persist. based on the sh process finding, we belive it is to do with EIGRP update. what is your suggestion? cheers Roy

Can you check the load on the outbound interface and also interface connecting to the other router which has AT&T link terminated. Also see if any of the GRE tunnels or interfaces are flapping frequently and eigrp neighborship is rebuiling.

Check if you can find any BUGS for 12.3(14)T6.
