conect 857 fastet0 to the wan

Hi,

I have a 857, I had my ADSL, everything worked perfect. I've moved, now I have a cable company with their modem, it is conected to a coax cable and in the other interface has a RJ-45 conector. My 857 to connect to WAN has an RJ-11 conector to conect it to normal phone line (with a ppp conexion).

Can I plugin the modem (RJ-45) to the fasteth port and have the internet conection from the WAN in fasteth ports. How would you set it up the 857?

You more than likely will not be able to use your router. These smaller routers are somewhat limited. The 857 only supports ADSL as WAN and ethernet as LAN. You would need a 851 that uses ethernet for both wan and lan.

ok, but if I know the IP/Mask and default-gateway from my cable ISP and all are static. Can I assign somehow that IPs and gateway to VLAN1 (4 fasteth ports)and connect VLAN1 to the modem. So, my ISP router can forward the packets to my router, is this true?
