Difference Between OSPF Different AS and EBGP

Dear All,

Please Suggest me in my below query.

If two routers are connected each other and we are configuration Different OSPF ASs number, Both routers are able to exchange the routing table.

Then what is the use of EBGP ? or EBGP have any other feature which are not having the OSPF.

I know..

EBGP: EGP (EGP would be working in different ASs number)

OSPF :IGP ( As We know IGP would be working Within the AS)

Hi,

In a controlled small environment, what you suggested is definitely possible. You can simply run different OSPF process and redistribute among them. But BGP is known for scalability and control. In  a large network dealing with few 100 thousands of prefixes, using OSPF is not a good idea. Further controlling incoming and outgoing traffic (not blocking but controlling whihc prefix should use which incoming/outgoing path) is very simple with BGP while comparing with other IGP protocols.

Thanks Nagendra.

EBGP has many features not supported by OSPF (or other IGPs).

As Nagendra mentions, BGP is known for its scalability and its control (of routing policy).

BTW, OSPF (and other IGPs) have advantages over BGP too.

I would suggest that the original post is based on a mistake in understanding the terminology. It asks about OSPF in different AS. I assume that it refers to router A running OSPF 10 and router B running OSPF 20. But these numbers are not AS numbers. In configuring OSPF the number that we use is really a process ID and not an AS.
